Sleep Hygiene and the Tale of Caf-fiend
Tuesday June 10, 2025 10:00am - 10:50am PDT
A study from the Mayo Clinic showed that 83% of students ages 13-18, use caffeine daily and another 96% semi-regularly. Healthy sleep improves cognitive function, better memory, attention, and problem solving skills. These benefits are what we want for our students to be successful. Sleep deprivation is shown to decrease the previous benefits while increasing anxiety and depression which is so prevalent in our youth today. We will discuss sleep hygiene and its benefits while presenting the damaging research of caffeine consumption and how it disrupts sleep cycles, deep restorative sleep time, increases anxiety and ultimately diminishing our students' chances for academic success.  This session will be repeated.

Simulating Science: Engaging Your Students in Outbreak Response through Role-Based Learning
Tuesday June 10, 2025 10:00am - 11:50am PDT
Step into the heart of a Bluetooth-based simulated outbreak using Operation Outbreak’s Level 2 simulation. Designed for junior high and high school classrooms and aligned with Utah SEEd Standards, this immersive experience introduces students to key concepts in epidemiology and public health. Participants will take on outbreak response roles, analyze real-time data, and collaborate across disciplines. The session highlights how to bring this simulation into your own school and prepare students for HOSA events. Participants will also contribute to a UVU-led research project exploring the impact of simulation-based learning on student engagement and understanding of disease outbreaks.

Pre- and Post- Data to Guide Future Instruction
Tuesday June 10, 2025 1:00pm - 1:50pm PDT
In a world where your teaching is "graded" on data, why not have the data to show your effectiveness as a teacher. Show your investors/administration the growth of your students not just by a letter grade.  We will be discussing YouScience and the new ability to give Pre-, Post-, and retakes for certification exams. We will look at the data we can get after the post- tests have been given and also how it can drive change and modification in future lessons.
